This is not the kind of photograph taken in a studio with a photographer and a camera on a tripod. Usually, a Selfie is taken with a smartphone or a digital camera at arm’s length. Recently, Selfie sticks are been used to take Selfie.

Selfies are usually destined for Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, and Instagram. You may have taken one or even more than once. Take a look at your selfies. Have you taken a good one? On a scale of 1-10, rate your selfies and decide if they are good enough. Check through your IG, you are definitely spammed by your friends’ pictures. Compare your Selfie to theirs, you’ll either love what you see or decide to hate it totally.

Taking the perfect Selfie is an art, knowing the one to post on social media is a science. At the end of this article, you should be a pro Selfie taker. There is much to a Selfie than just pouting or having one funny face. Join the Selfie gang with these tips.

Aim for the Best Angle

The first thing to having that awesome Selfie that garners thousands of like on social media is knowing the best angle to shot from. Yes, I know you are a slay queen or king, but you have your bad side. If you take a Selfie from such angle, you’ll wonder how ugly you’ve become. Don’t keep it straight on, there’s nothing good about it. Any selfie taken from 45 degrees is bound to be a killer.

You are in control. Display the features that you love about yourself and show less of your less flattering features. The winning angle is from above your head with your torso obvious in the frame and one of your shoulder visible in the camera. Lastly, elongate your neck, there’s nothing as funny looking as the absence of a neck in a picture.

Note: You are not beautiful from all angle, know your best.

Front or Back Camera?

Most phones have a front camera that is of lower quality than the front one. What’s the camera strength of your phone? You cannot compare the picture quality of a back camera with 13 Megapixel and a front camera with just 5 Megapixel. However, one trick to take the perfect head shot is to take position yourself in front of a mirror and see how you look. Taking Selfie has taken a new dimension with Selfie sticks which will increase the distance from your face and the camera. Selfies are to be taken at arm’s length, making them easy to take at any time.

Smartphones and portable cameras make selfie easy to take everywhere. With a good weather and location, you are always tempted to take a selfie. Smartphones have made it very convenient to take a selfie. Most phones have the camera capacity that professional cameras possess and make the picture of high quality.

Note: Utilize the auto-focus of your camera, portray yourself.

Ensure there is enough light

Light up your selfie! Having enough light in a selfie makes it awesome. If you are indoor, move closer to the window and let the ray of light infiltrate your Selfie. Natural light makes a Selfie amazing. You should know that lighting is the most important element of every picture either motion or static. With decent lighting, you are bound to produce a selfie with enough clarity. Compare the selfies you have taken while inside a car which has enough lighting and those taken indoor. There must be a difference, natural lighting makes selfie awesome.

While indoor with low light, find a lamp and illuminate it on your face to brighten up your selfie. Ensure you have a blue or white light which will never wash out your face like yellow light does. If you can avoid your phone flash, please do. Look for natural light, nothing beats originality. With the right light, never allow any shadow cast on your beauty.

Note: The right light will bring out your shine.

Filtering and Editing.

While editing or filtering a picture can be your best friend, this can also be your worst enemy. There’s a different between an enhanced picture and a fake one. Your filters should ensure your pictures are smooth, makes your wrinkles disappear and hide every of your blemishes. You should, however, run away from any filter that changes your look totally or turns you into a ghost *winks*

Ensure you don’t lighten up your selfie beyond decency, you will just find yourself looking like a vegetable in a desert. Avoid too much of saturation, else you’ll look like a washed off orange paint.

If you are sharing a makeup product, shut the filter OFF - people want to see it as is!

Note: Filters will make your selfie look professional or fake.

The Don’t of Selfie

The number one don’t of taking a perfect picture is being too serious with your selfie. Selfie are meant to playful, informal and fun. If you intend to be too serious with it, you are never going to have the best selfie. Don’t ever try too hard to look super, it should appear impromptu and effortless. Every Selfie should appear casual.

Be creative with your selfie, think out of the box. Look at every selfie you’ve seen and do something different in a simple way. Take a lot of selfies, that’s the only way to arrive at the best. However, post only the best, else the not so good ones will overshadow the good ones. Do something that will make your selfie standout from the millions that are posted every day.
